NPP Australia’s Board comprises 13 directors. Five are independent of the shareholders – the CEO, Chair, two Independent Directors and a director representing the Reserve Bank of Australia's Settlement Department. The four major banks have a director on the Board and the remaining shareholders of NPP Australia elect four directors on the Board. Each Board director has one vote except for the CEO who is a non-voting director.

  • Bob McKinnon

    Independent Chair

    Bob McKinnon’s appointment as Chair of NPP Australia’s Board of Directors commenced in January 2019. Bob is a co-founder and director of Mirin Group and holds a number of board positions, including the role of non-executive Chair of Invigor Group and non-executive director and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee at AMP Capital Funds Management and AMP Investment Services.

    Having worked as Chief Information Officer both for Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Westpac Banking Corporation Limited, Bob has extensive experience in financial services, technology, and large scale transformation initiatives. Bob has also held various executive leadership roles at Brookfield Multiplex, State Street and Lend Lease.

    Bob joined the Board on 21 January 2019 and is a member of the Audit Finance and Risk Committee, NPP Governance Committee and the People and Culture Committee.

  • Chloe Munro AO,

    Independent Director

    Chloe Munro AO joined NPP Australia’s Board as an independent director in February 2018. She brings more than two decades of experience in senior public policy roles combined with strong commercial skills developed in a range of industries. She is the independent Chair of the Australian Energy Market Operator Expert Panel, commencing after her role as a panel member on the Finkel Review of the National Electricity Market in 2016/17. Chloe was previously the Chief Executive Officer and Chair of the Clean Energy Regulator and has also held various executive leadership roles at Telstra.

    Chloe joined the Board on 13 February 2018 and is the Chair of the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee and a member of the NPP Governance Committee.

  • Elizabeth Hallett

    Independent Director

    Elizabeth is an experienced non-executive director and chair of audit & risk committees in the financial services, infrastructure and regulated sectors. Elizabeth was appointed to the NPP Australia board as its third independent director, in February 2020. She is also a non-executive director on the boards of Sunsuper (a large public offer superannuation fund), NSW Land Registry Services, and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

    Elizabeth is a current reappointed member of the Takeovers Panel, and also sits on the Advisory Committee of the John Sample Group. Previously, Elizabeth was a corporate partner with an international law firm for 22 years, where she held global and national leadership roles.

    Elizabeth joined the board as an independent director on 6 February 2020 and is Chair of the Governance Committee and a member of the People and Culture Committee.

  • Nigel Dobson

    Banking Services Business Domain Lead, ANZ

    Nigel Dobson has been at ANZ since 2009, initially working for four years in senior Transaction Banking roles, before moving into his current role. Nigel is also currently a member of the Australian Payments Council. Prior to joining ANZ, Nigel spent 19 years working for Citi in various senior Markets and Transaction Services roles both in Australia and across the Asia Pacific region.

    Nigel joined the Board on 16 December 2014 and is a member of the Strategy Committee.

  • Albert Naffah

    Managing Director, Strategic Initiatives & Industry Solutions, Commonwealth Bank of Australia

    Albert has 20 years’ experience in financial services across general management, strategy, business development, corporate and regulatory affairs, and operations. Since March 2017, Albert has led the Strategic Initiatives and Industry Solutions teams of senior banking professionals tasked with designing and delivering large new technology programs to deliver leading edge working capital and analytics solutions to CBA’s clients. His remit includes the commercialisation of emerging technology including the New Payments Platform, API’s, distributed ledger technologies and virtual accounts, as well as building out the Bank’s international payments and cash management capabilities.

    Albert joined the Board on 6 June 2018 and is member of the Strategy Committee.

  • Rachel Slade

    Chief Customer Experience Officer, National Australia Bank

    Rachel joined NAB in January 2017, continuing to add to her 20 years experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining NAB Rachel spent 18 years working for Westpac in a range of roles, most recently General Manager, Global Transactional Services (GTS), Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB). Prior to moving into banking, Rachel worked as a financial services strategy consultant with Andersen Consulting, giving her knowledge of the financial services industry that expands past banking.

    Rachel joined the Board on 8 May 2017.

  • Jim Tate

    Advisor, Westpac

    After an early career in accounting and tax, Jim Tate joined Bank of America in 1979 and Westpac Banking Corporation in 1988.

    Jim lead both Westpac’s New York and London branches before taking over Westpac’s AGC, negotiating its successful sale to GE.

    Further positions included: Chief Financial Officer, Westpac Institutional Bank, Chief Product Officer, Westpac Group, Chief Operating Officer, Westpac New Zealand Limited and, since 2015, Chief Product Officer, Business.

    Jim is, currently, an Advisor for the Westpac Group, an alumnus of the University of New South Wales and a Fellow of both CPA Australia and Australian Institute of Company Directors.

    Jim joined the Board on 13 February 2020 and is a member of the Strategy Committee.

  • Greg Johnston

    Head of Payments Settlements, Reserve Bank of Australia

    Greg Johnston has worked in his current role, Head of Payments Settlements Department at the Reserve Bank of Australia, since 2013. Prior to taking up this role, he held a range of senior management positions at the Reserve Bank including Chief Representative, New York and Head of Banking. Greg has 30 years’ experience in central and private sector banking, giving him a wealth and variety of knowledge.

    Greg joined the Board on 16 December 2014 and is the Chair of the People and Culture Committee.

  • Michael O’Shea

    Head of Customer Led Innovation, Bendigo and Adelaide Bank

    Michael has more than 20 years’ experience in Financial Services including roles in Superannuation, Internal Audit and Retail Operations and Customer Strategy. In his current role, Michael has overall responsibility for Payments Product Development, Compliance, Operations and Support for Cards, Merchant Acquiring, ATM’s, Payments, and Mobile and Electronic Banking. Michael is also the business sponsor for Bendigo and Adelaide “Up” Digital Banking initiative.

    Michael joined the Board on 18 October 2018 and is a member of the Audit Finance and Risk Committee and the People and Culture Committee

  • Scott Southall

    Managing Director Head of Citi Transaction Services Australia & New Zealand, CitiBank

    Scott Southall joined Citi Group more than six years ago as Managing Director, Head of AUS and NZ Global Transaction Services. He is also a member of the Executive Committee for Citi’s business in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to joining Citi, Scott held various roles at Westpac Banking Corporation, most recently General Manager of Deposits, Cards and Merchants and served as Westpac’s board member for eftpos Payments Australia Limited.

    Scott joined the Board on 15 December 2014 and is a member of the Strategy Committee.

  • Craig Kennedy

    Managing Director, Cuscal

    Craig Kennedy, Managing Director at Cuscal Ltd, has more than 25 years experience in domestic and international retail banking, spending much of that time specialising in electronic banking and payments. Craig is also a member of the Australian Payments Council. Prior to joining Cuscal, Craig was Managing Director of Espreon Limited and was also Head of Direct Banking at ING.

    Craig joined the Board on 2 December 2014 and is the Chair of the Strategy Committee.

  • Tony Graham

    Executive Director, Macquarie Bank

    Tony joined Macquarie Group in 1998, and is currently Head of Product and Technology in the Banking & Financial Services Group which is responsible for retail banking, business banking, wealth management and motor vehicle leasing.

    Prior to joining Macquarie Tony spent ten years as an IT Consultant with Accenture specialising in large technology change programs for retail financial institutions and government departments (taxation).

    Tony currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Macquarie Equities Limited. He is a member of the Executive Committee for Macquarie’s Banking and Financial Services Group, as well as a member of the Macquarie Group Foundation Board the philanthropic arm of the Macquarie Group.

    Tony joined the Board on 21 December 2019 and is a member of the Audit Finance and Risk Committee.

  • Adrian Lovney

    CEO, NPP Australia

    Adrian commenced as the inaugural CEO of NPP Australia in September 2016. Prior to joining NPP Australia, Adrian was General Manager, Product & Service at Cuscal, where he was responsible for all product management and operational functions, marketing, sales, and client service. Cuscal was a founding participant of the Real Time Payments Committee and Adrian was one of several senior staff deeply involved in the design, development and governance of Australia’s NPP. Adrian has an Honours degree in Law from Queensland University of Technology and an MBA from Melbourne Business School.

    Adrian is a member of the Audit Finance and Risk Committee and the NPP Governance Committee.

  • Bob Masina

    General Manager, Technology & Operations

    Bob Masina joined NPPA in November 2016. His key responsibilities include the development of new capability on the platform and its daily operation. Bob’s previous role was Executive Manager, Payments Operations with APCA where he coordinated the industry development of the ISO20022 messaging standard. Bob had been involved from the early conceptual stages of the NPP and provided management support to the NPP Board and program. Prior to APCA Bob held technology and operations executive positions at Link Market Services and the Australian Stock Exchange.

  • Vanessa Chapman

    General Counsel and Company Secretary

    Vanessa Chapman is a senior corporate lawyer with extensive top tier private practice and in-house payments industry legal and executive management experience, with particular expertise in payment systems and payments regulation. She joined NPP Australia from APCA, where she worked for more than six years, more recently in the position of General Counsel. Vanessa has been involved in the NPP programme since its inception, particularly in the formulation of the NPP governance arrangements. She has BA (Econ.)/LLB and Master of Laws (Corporate and Commercial) from University of New South Wales.

  • Katrina Stuart

    Head of Engagement

    Katrina is responsible for market engagement for NPP Australia, working with financial institutions, fintechs and other interested parties to grow volumes and services on the New Payments Platform. Prior to joining NPP Australia, Katrina worked for American Express in Sydney, Singapore and London with responsibility for growing third party issuing and acquiring volumes in multiple markets across South East Asia. Katrina has also worked for National Australia Bank, managing their Self Service Channel, as well as with Booz Allen & Hamilton as a management consultant in their Financial Services Practice.

  • Patricia Chen

    Company Secretary and Office Manager

    Patricia Chen was the second employee of NPP Australia, joining in October 2016. She has a dual role as Company Secretary and Office Manager. Patricia brings to NPP Australia more than ten years of experience as a Finance and Office Manager. She most recently worked with Silicon Valley based Dtex Systems where Patricia played an instrumental part in the company achieving Series A venture capital funding. Prior to this, Patricia worked at Pcubed Australia and Fox International Channels.
